You will never order Tiramisu again once you've made it yourself. In fact, you'll be sorely disappointed, even angry, at what restaurants get away with when it comes to this classic, and very easy, dish. Ingredients:
- 500 g marscapone cheese (room temperature)
- Amaretti or Italian sponge biscuits (approx. 500 g or 1 packet)
- 250 ml of very strong filter coffee (cooled)
- 100 ml of Marsala
- 2 eggs
- Chocolate (20 - 50 g)(A flake will also do)
- Whipping cream
Instructions:
Mix the coffee and Marsala together. Beat egg yolks into the marsapone. Whip eggs whites and fold in. Dip biscuits into coffee/Marsala mixture. Let the biscuits absorb the liquid but don't allow to become too soggy (ie biscuits completely dissolve). The Italian sponge biscuits absorb the mixture much faster than the Amaretti ones do. Quickly line the base of your bowl with moist biscuits. Spoon half the marscapone cheese over the first layer and spread to cover the layer.
Dip the second layer of biscuits into the mixture. Add remainder of marscapone. You can whip cream and add to the top. Grate chocolate over the top. Add strawberries if you like.
Allow to sit (in fridge) for 2 + hours. The longer, the better.
Number of layers will depend on size of your bowl.
